Alec Merriman
The Daily Colonist  KING Fisherman  contest ...
run by Alec Merriman  (Jim Tang)

I  arrived a bit late to Vancouver Island  as a contestant, but I have interviewed many anglers who won prizes  and  fished competetively over the years. (early 1950's into the 70's)
Alec Merriman,  the  outdoors editor of the Colonist newspaper  ran the contest and wrote daily and weekly columns , reporting the latest catches and fishing conditions around Vancouver Island.  Alec is 94 years young as I write this paragraph. (April 2014)

Over the years I  have had many fine evening visits at his long standing family home at Langford Lake, and enjoyed several KFC lunches (one of his fav's)  while listening to his stories as he puffed his trademark cigar.
I only met his lovely bride Taffy Merriman once ( on my first visit )  Alec's life long partner in marriage and outdoor writing.

****  In the near future I will be uploading  Jim Tang's Alec's weekly fishing columns
beginning around 1950 to 1980
