Tommy Brayshaw could possibly be one of British Columbia's most iconic anglers. The aptly named book about his life " The Ardent Angler-Artist " (by Stanley Read) gives us a glimpse of what this angling super hero was all about.
Born at Stackhouse in the parish of Giggleswick, Yorkshire England on March 3rd 1886 ... and passed on Oct. 10th 1967 in Vancouver BC.
Tommy was truly an Angler first, but also a very accomplished Artist. His illustrations graced the pages of Roderick L Haig-Browns Western Angler and his hand carved 3D salmon and trout breathed life . The carvings are so amazingly detailed and perhaps some of the best of their kind ever made.
I have been fortunate to have been given several original Christmas cards , drawings /paintings + a box of flies, and purchased his war medals, and some personal artifacts such as this key case pictured above, carving tools in a hand crafted oak box and a hand blown goblet likely used by Tommy's grandfather ca. 1800.
Needless to say I place these pieces in most high regard.
